Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has commenced the distribution of a N1.5 billion intervention fund to assist Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and households affected by last year’s devastating floods in the state.
The initiative targets 10,000 beneficiaries across various communities, including members of associations, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
At the launch event, Governor Yahaya emphasized that the welfare of Gombe State residents remains central to his administration’s agenda. He highlighted ongoing efforts to support livelihoods and businesses, stating:
“The welfare of Gombe State’s people is a top priority. Over the years, we’ve launched numerous programs to alleviate poverty and aid the vulnerable. Our focus is on providing safety nets and empowering citizens to rebuild their lives.”
Emergency Relief and Business Recovery
Yahaya noted that the state government, through the Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, provided immediate relief during the flood crisis. This intervention, he said, goes beyond recovery by aiming to strengthen resilience and rebuild affected businesses and households.
“This is an opportunity not just to recover but to grow stronger and more resilient,” he added.
The governor reaffirmed his commitment to attracting additional interventions and implementing policies that promote business growth and citizen prosperity.

Yahaya commended the Federal Government, the North-East Development Commission, and other stakeholders for their collaboration, urging beneficiaries to utilize the funds wisely to contribute to the state’s development.

Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Shehu Abdullahi, highlighted the governor’s proactive approach during last season’s floods, which affected 2,500 houses, 33 communities, farmlands, and infrastructure.
Abdullahi praised Yahaya for his swift response, which included emergency relief efforts, and described the support as pivotal in rebuilding livelihoods and businesses.

Fatima Bello, Chairperson of Shongom Local Government, lauded Yahaya’s leadership, calling him an “unprecedented leader and achiever” for prioritizing the welfare of Gombe residents. She pledged the full cooperation of all local government chairpersons to ensure the program’s success.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Uba Abdullahi, Chairman of the Gombe State Rural Marketers Association, expressed gratitude for the governor’s interventions, acknowledging their significant impact on local businesses.
“Since Governor Yahaya assumed office, businesses in Gombe have consistently benefited from his support. We are confident these funds will be effectively utilized for their intended purpose,” Abdullahi said.
He also applauded the N500 million intervention for SMEs under the GoCares initiative, describing it as a critical step in boosting the state’s economy.
