The Ilorin zonal division of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 48 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud, along with herbalists, in Lokoja, Kogi state. These arrests were made on allegations of conspiracy and fraudulent acquisition of money through deception.
According to the statement released by the EFCC:
"The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has apprehended 48 individuals suspected of internet fraud and herbalists for offences related to conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
These arrests were made based on credible intelligence on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at different locations in Lokoja. Additionally, a herbalist, suspected to be the spiritual mentor of internet fraudsters, was apprehended with various mystical items.
Among the items seized from them were 10 high-end cars, two motorcycles, 11 laptops, 83 mobile phones, and assorted charms."
