A tragic road accident on Ogijo Road, Sotubo, in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, claimed the life of a 38-year-old Sonia Company employee, Mariam Olatuga, while leaving two others severely injured.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday.
The crash, which occurred at approximately 2:40 p.m., involved a TVS motorcycle with registration number SUA 148 VH and an ash-colored Toyota Camry with registration number MUS 808 JA.
Accident Details
According to SP Odutola, the motorcycle rider, carrying two passengers, attempted to cross the road without checking for oncoming traffic. A speeding Toyota Camry collided with the motorcycle, leading to the fatal incident.
“The crash involved a Toyota Camry driven by a 30-year-old man, Babatunde Solomon, and a TVS motorcycle ridden by Ebenezer Joshua, who was transporting two passengers: Odujobi Damilola and Mariam Olatuga,” Odutola said.
All three motorcycle occupants sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu. Unfortunately, Mariam Olatuga was pronounced dead on arrival by medical staff, while the rider and the second passenger are receiving treatment.
Investigation Underway
The police have launched an investigation into the incident. The damaged Toyota Camry and motorcycle have been recovered for safety and Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) inspection.
“The accident scene was visited, and evidence, including photographs, was collected. Further updates on the investigation will be provided,” Odutola stated.
