Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Yusuf, has declared that he is unconcerned about reelection in the upcoming 2027 general elections, emphasizing his belief that leadership is divinely ordained by Allah.
Speaking on Wednesday during the monthly women empowerment program, Yusuf stressed that he would not lose sleep over the 2027 elections and called for caution against hate speech and inflammatory statements.
He warned that such remarks could intimidate voters eager to exercise their civic rights.
Reflecting on past elections, the governor highlighted the resounding defeat of the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 general elections, where the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party secured the governorship, two senatorial seats, 18 out of 26 House of Representatives seats, and 26 out of 40 state assembly seats.

Yusuf stated, “Reelection is not my priority. My main focus is delivering on the mandate given to me by the people of Kano in this first tenure. At the end of my term, I want my performance to be the basis of judgment by the people.”
The governor also remarked on his administration's victories against political opponents in previous elections, adding, “We won against those who were overwhelmingly rejected in both 2019 and 2023, even when we held no political office—not even a Councillorship seat. Allah made it possible for us to achieve a landslide victory.”
He continued, “It is my belief that if Allah wills, I will serve a second term. If not, I won’t. So, why should I worry?”
Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to resisting any undue political pressure, asserting that his performance would speak for itself. He also criticized certain opposition figures, accusing them of attempting to create unnecessary political tension in the state.
