Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command have apprehended five suspected vandals in two separate operations within Abuja city.
The arrests were disclosed by the command’s spokesperson, CSC Samuel Idoko, on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
In the first incident, Suleiman Ibrahim, 17, and Abubakar Zakari, 22, both from Kano State, were arrested near the Wuse Market Bridge while in possession of iron poles.
The poles were allegedly stolen from the Arts and Culture Complex in Area 10, Garki, and the suspects were en route to sell them.
Authorities reported that the two are cooperating with the investigation, offering information to track down their buyers.

In a separate operation, three other suspects—Aliyu Danladi, 37, from Kano State; Jamilu Abdulrahaman, 25, from Zamfara State; and Usman Ibrahim, 38, from Sokoto State—were arrested at the Durumi 2 pantaker market in the middle of the night.
They were caught attempting to transport what are believed to be stolen goods. Early investigations suggest they are part of a broader syndicate involved in dealing with stolen property.
Recovered from the suspects were three electronic billboards, two solar batteries, a gas cylinder, a generator set, a refrigerator gas cylinder, and various tools.
Authorities revealed that buyers often frequent the market at night to purchase these stolen items.
FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu stressed the importance of regulating pantaker markets, which have become hubs for the trade of stolen and vandalized goods.
He called for immediate measures to combat vandalism and safeguard public infrastructure.
Investigations are ongoing, with the NSCDC committed to holding those responsible accountable, as they enforce a strict no-tolerance stance on vandalism.
