Three ABSU Medical Students Die in a Car Crash

 

Three students studying Medicine and Surgery at Abia State University Uturu tragically lost their lives in a car accident on the Okigwe section of the Enugu-Umuahia Expressway. 

The incident occurred as they were returning to Aba from the school's medical student induction on March 21, 2024. 

According to reports, the victims were in a vehicle that lost control and overturned, resulting in three fatalities and two other students sustaining severe injuries and receiving medical treatment.

A source familiar with the situation confirmed the deaths of three students, with two others in critical condition at the hospital, while one student miraculously survived the crash. 

The vehicle involved was described as an ash-colored private Toyota Camry, and the accident occurred at the Okigwe stretch of the Enugu-Umuahia Expressway.

The Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Abia State, Fredrick Ogiden, verified the incident, stating that his team responded promptly to the scene of the accident. A viral video circulating online shows FRSC personnel at the accident site.

One of the students who lost their life in the tragic accident has been identified as Favour Okpanku, a 500 Level Medical and Surgery student at the university.
