Youths Protesting Colleague’s Killing Block Road in Edo

Youths protesting the killing of a fellow colleague have blocked the road in Iguomo and Ikhueniro areas of Orhionmwon Local Government Area in Edo State, causing tension along the Benin-Asaba Road.

Witnesses report that enraged youths have barricaded the road and ignited bonfires, rendering it impassable. Armed with sticks and machetes, they have halted traffic, leaving commuters stranded. The deceased, identified as a Hausa youth, lies on the ground, but attempts to photograph the scene have been thwarted by the angry protesters.

The absence of law enforcement further escalates the situation, prompting caution for commuters who are advised to seek alternative routes. The motive behind the shooting is unclear, adding complexity to the incident, and urgent intervention from authorities is requested to address community concerns and apprehend the perpetrators.

Priority is now on de-escalating the tension, restoring order, and ensuring the safety of all affected individuals. Efforts to contact the Edo State Police Command spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, have been unsuccessful at the time of this report.
