The Ogun State Police Command reported the apprehension of a 65-year-old pastor named Timothy Adedibu, accused of sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in Magboro, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area. The incident occurred on February 15 and came to light when the girl's uncle raised an alarm. Adedibu, purportedly a church leader in the area, allegedly enticed the minor into his residence and engaged in sexual activity with her.
Omolola Odutola, the state police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations were ongoing. The survivor's family was provided with forms for her to undergo medical examination and treatment. Both Adedibu and the survivor's family are slated to be transferred to headquarters for further interrogation.
In a separate incident, the police arrested Prince Dara for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Idorawa, via Idi-Oke, on February 8, 2024. The survivor, referred to as Odede, accused Dara of coercing her into his home after seizing her belongings, threatening her with a knife, and repeatedly raping her before releasing her.
Odutola mentioned the swift mobilization of surveillance teams to the scene and the subsequent arrest of Dara. The survivor received medical treatment, and the case was scheduled for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Abeokuta for further investigation.
Under Nigerian criminal law, defilement is a severe sexual offense. Legal expert Collins Aigbogun emphasized that perpetrators of defilement risk life imprisonment, especially when the victim is under 13 years old. He underscored that this punishment is consistent across states like Ogun and Lagos.
