Charges Brought Against Woman for Alleged Threats to Businessman During Legal Dispute

Folashade Olalude faced the Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate Court on Friday, charged with cyberbullying and threatening a businessman's life. She was accused of conspiracy, attempted theft, cyberbullying, and making threats, as presented by Chief Magistrate Olwatosin Fowowe-Erusiafe.

Law enforcement accused Olalude and her absconding accomplices of these crimes from 2015 to 2022. The prosecutor, Henry Obiazi, claimed that Olalude, intending to commit theft, extorted over N5 million from Alhaji Lawal Abdullateef, coupled with threats and attempts to defame him online. She also allegedly aimed to damage the reputation of his wife, actress Lizzy Anjorin, through bloggers.

Evidence showed that in October 2023, Olalude sent Abdullateef a threatening letter, also messaging him directly. Her actions were reportedly against the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, Sections 411, 301, and 232.

Olalude pled not guilty. The prosecution sought her detention, while her lawyer, I. S. Ijenkeri, requested bail. Magistrate Fowowe-Ersiafe granted bail at N200,000 with two sureties, ordering Olalude to remain in Kirikiri's female section until bail conditions were met. The trial was set to continue on March 14, 2024.
